1. Going Green

Not in the literal sense (at least, not for most people), but many are choosing to “upcycle” their wedding and commit to a zero-waste or reduced carbon footprint wedding. Depending how intense the couple wishes to go, this could mean resetting a family stone, utilizing a family heirloom as the wedding ring, sending out bio-degradable wedding invitations, or sourcing locally grown food or vendors who prioritize sustainability.

Weddings are expensive. Many people are opting not to have massive ceremonies involving each and every one of their extended family to instead have an exclusive, intimate celebration. This allows the budget per guest to be higher, the decor to be more elaborate, and for the ceremony itself to be far more personalized.

3. Extravagant Lighting

Lighting is always important to setting the mood for your nuptials, but it seems their importance in decor has increased tenfold over the years. Many couples opt to include hanging string lights from the ceiling or coiling fairy lights around the centerpiece of the table, making for a mystical mood without the fire-hazard of candles.

4. Unique Dress Code

Black will always be classic attire for weddings, but recently, people have been getting a little more creative with their dress codes. More and more often, we see men in colored suits and the wedding party decked out in unique accessories to create a personalized look for one’s wedding photos. Sometimes, this extends down to even the guest list for fun costuming.

5. Specialized Cocktails

Couples are getting creative in all aspects of their wedding– all the way down to the drink menu. For their wedding, many couples create “signature drinks” for their guests to enjoy. Some have it prepared beforehand and put in a wall-mounted dispenser, so that guests can self-serve and the couple doesn’t have to hire a bartender. Like this, everyone wins.
