Though times of great joy, weddings are a costly event that stresses everyone involved. However, they don’t have to be tens of thousands of dollars if you incorporate these tips into your wedding planning.

Make the announcements/invitations yourself

A cost that quickly adds up that many wouldn’t expect is wedding save-the-dates and invitations. Going through a printing service to include layered card-stock, images, embossed fonts, and so much more quickly gets expensive for something that most of your guests are going to throw out. Instead, make the invitations yourself. Use a nice, but not overly expensive card stock, perhaps learn a little calligraphy, and you can make an invitation just as beautiful as a custom-made one.

Make table centerpieces with the assistance of your bridal party

This is yet another expense that, for only being used for a few hours, is quite expensive. Limit that cost by creating the centerpieces with the assistance of your bridal party. Make an event of it– perhaps provide pizza and champagne– and get together to make a far more cost-effective centerpiece that is personalized exactly to your taste.

Wedding photographer

It is possible you may be friends with (or a friend of a friend of) a wedding photographer. Contact them to see if you can hire their services for a discounted price. Another great option is to find a college student to do the photography for you. They will likely offer their services at a lower price and still produce great work.

Skip the bar

Having a bar at one’s wedding is unfortunately one of the most expensive parts of a wedding, as you have to pay for not only the bartender, but the liquor. Consider a dry wedding instead, or simply provide wine and beer to save yourself money but still provide guests a drink.

DIY hair and makeup

Save yourself the cost of hiring a beautician by doing your hair and makeup yourself, or having someone from your bridal party do it. Practice months ahead of time so you are confident you can produce exactly the look you want when it comes to your actual wedding day.
